Research Interests
Our research centers on physicochemical methods for water and wastewater treatment. The goal of our group is to develop innovative water treatment/reuse technologies that can help our society address critical water quality challenges and promote water sustainability. Our current research focuses on advanced oxidation, electrodisinfection, synergistic integration of multiple treatment processes, contaminants of emerging concern.

Shimadzu TOC-LCPH with auto sampler
This TOC is designed for analysis of organic carbon in various water matrices, utilizing Platinum catalyst, 680°C combustion technique to oxidize aqueous samples and a Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) detector for maximum sensitivity and durability (4 ppb to 30,000 ppm).

Dionex ICS-1600 with auto sampler
The ICS instrument is designed to perform isocratic ion chromatography (IC) separations using conductivity detection with standard bore (4 mm) and microbore (2 mm) columns. The built-in eluent vacuum degas provides automatic in-line degassing of eluents, protecting eluents from contamination and decomposition.

The LTQ Orbitrap XL is a high performance hybrid LC-MS and MSn system based on the combination of the most advanced Ion Trap technology combined with the Orbitrap analyzer technique. This instrument is an Orbitrap-based FT-MS system with high resolution, mass accuracy and high sensitivity, which allows us to detect and identify contaminants of emerging concern present at very low concentrations in environmental water/wastewater samples.
